Storyline
Deep in the heart of the English countryside lies the enchanting village of Gladbury. Legend has it every 25 years an angel visits the village candlemaker and touches a single candle. Whoever lights this candle receives a miracle on Christmas Eve. But in 1890, at the dawn of the electric age, this centuries old legend may come to an end. When David Richmond (Hans Matheson), a progressive young minister, arrives in Gladbury, the villagers discover a new formula for miracles: good deeds and acts of kindness. While David’s quest to modernize Gladbury sets him at odds with the old world candlemaker, he finds an unlikely ally in the lovely skeptic, Emily Barstow (Samantha Barks). Now, the fiery candlemaker must fight to preserve the legacy of the Christmas Candle. But when the candle goes missing, the miraculous and human collide in the most astonishing Christmas the village of Gladbury has ever seen. Written by The Christmas Candle

  1. Enjoyed it from start to finish. It kept me entertained the whole way through and Hans Matheson and Samantha Barks had good chemistry throughout the film. Leslie Manville was great as Bea Haddington and Barbar Flynn as Lady Camden. Movie was much better than the trailer. The setting is very authentic and you really feel like you are taken back in time. The angle scene in the beginning of the movie is a little cheesy, but special effects are very good. Susan Boyle's voice is amazing as always and it is great to see her in her first film. For everyone who likes Doctor Who, Sylvester McCoy will charm you as the candle maker. The script is well written and you will enjoy the progression of the movie. Some of my friends commented that they were surprised that the movie held their attention all the way through. I thought it was a good compliment from some Sci Fi fanatics. I think you will enjoy this film and you will be blessed by the story. Highly recommend it!

  2. What a delightful story to come out in the theaters! This stunning movie contains a stellar cast, a charming English village, and a heart- warming story of faith in the face of difficulty.

Based on the Max Lucado book by the same name, this movie portrays a message of hope and endurance, and of answered prayers for miracles. Much like the film, "It's a Wonderful Life", The Christmas Candle is destined to be a classic family Christmas film that brings to mind the true meaning of the Christmas season.

The acting is wonderful, though Susan Boyle is perhaps a bit more amateur in comparison to the rest, and the costumes are stunning! Bustle gowns made of velvets, brocades, and tweeds look lovely against the English countryside.

And the ending of the film is a true "happy ending" Christmas story. I highly recommend this movie!

  3. I went to watch this movie knowing it was a tale about hope, inspiration and people. I was not disappointed, enjoyed the characters and message from beginning to end. It is the absolute opposite from zombies, explosions, murder and mayhem, and is all the better for it. Not sure if the movie is true to every historical aspect of the time portrayed, but that is not the point. While the audience was small, there were applause at the end, and some folks wiping their eyes and not rushing to get out of the theater. Beware the onion ninjas when watching. Watch this movie with an appreciation for the human spirit and faith, you will not be disappointed and wish we had more movies like this to watch instead of the normal trashy Hollywood fare.

  4. This morning I went to see the movie "The Christmas Candle". It was an absolutely wonderful lovely movie! I am adding this movie to my must see list of movies for Christmas. This movie is about HOPE…..I was anxious to go see it after seeing the trailer, I love Susan Boyle, and I love Samantha Barks. I wasn't sure just what to expect. I was hoping to hear both of these lovely women singing, since that is what they are best known for. I won't tell you whether they do or not, but go see this movie. It was full of REAL, real heartaches, real emotions, real longings, real love and hope! No it is not a flashy high budget movie, but it is also not fake. It gives the message of love and hope that this world so needs and does not do it in a preachy way! Sometimes the messenger of hope is the one who needs it the most. Grab your family, bring a friend, and if you know someone who might just need a little hope, take them too! KUDOS to Max Lucado for writing the story and to the film makers for bringing it to the screen…..In my book….you get 5 stars!

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
