Grim is a revenge movie with hardly any revenge.
Little Nicholas Grim has the misfortune of seeing his mother and father killed by 3 bad guys who for some unknown reason spare him. Our boy Grim is then taken in and raised by a kindly couple. When fully grown Grim goes out seeking revenge. Unfortunately for him the 3 guys who killed his parents now run a huge militia so things may be difficult.
I usually love revenge movies but this one has far too many problems to make it an enjoyable watch. The most evident problem is how slow this movie is. Long unnecessary pauses between lines, scenes were absolutely nothing happens it's an insomniacs dream. You expect a little action in this genre but this is just so boring. Also the camera work is the most basic I've seen in a while. Some scenes are shot entirely from one angle. No cuts to close ups of the actors while they're conversing just wide angle shots, it's very dull. But the worst sin it commits is in the final moments. When Grim finally gets to confront the leader of the bad guys something happens and it's so poorly edited that I wasn't even sure what was supposed to have happened. I mean, I waded through the boredom of this movie with no actual payoff at the end. It was a total slap in the face.
I didn't enjoy this movie at all. I'm never going to watch it again. I don't recommend it to anyone.
I am able to make the difference between a film I like and a good film; and I am also able to make the difference between a film I don't like and a lousy one. GRIM is really a corny movie, bad executed, bad acted and with a topic we have already seen a thousand times before. But it reminds me the exploitation features from the seventies. Sort of revenge, vigilante stories in the "bloodiest" way of showing. Nearly always trash movies. I have seen tons of them. I love this one because of the downbeat atmosphere, and especially SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS its ending.
That's all. You can live without this one. But if you like action packed and cheesy bloodthirsty flicks, so don't miss it.
