A Popsicle Movie
By that I mean it really sucked! This is a movie that makes Plan 9 From Outer Space look like an Academy Award Nominee.
The acting is abominable. It would have been more exciting to have them with the script in their hands while acting out the movie.
Everything about it stunk:
– The photography and settings are beyond belief. I have never seen anything so bad before.
– The costumes look like they were purchased from Goodwill with some of it actually looking like polyester and not reflecting the clothes of that time
My recommendation is to go Green with this movie — Save electricity and do not watch it!!
It's obvious there wasn't a lot of cash to be spared during the production of "Sheriff of Contention," but the end result is still a fairly enjoyable little western flick.
The sets and costumes are all great. Some of the actors managed to deliver solid performances (namely Miguel Corona as trigger-happy town deputy). The story feels a little different and unique for the genre by mixing a western with a serial-killer thriller / murder mystery. And even though the direction, SFX, and editing are pretty rough in some areas, the film did manage to keep my interest throughout. (Could've been a little shorter without so many scenes being padded out.)
As a fan of westerns, I'm impressed by what was put on-screen with such an obviously low / micro-budget. It's apparent the filmmakers were looking to churn out a fun, old-fashioned western, no matter how little money they had. And for the most part, they succeeded.
If you're a fan of the genre, it's worth a rental from the 'ol Redbox.
"The Sheriff Of Contention"is allot of fun;A real old fashioned western with gunslinging and a murder mystery to boot!!!And there is some comedy as well ;like the cowboy who prefers to drink in Contentions main saloon with his dog rather than the real purty saloon gals there!!!Great action as well with fine authentic rodeo riders helping to step up the film pace.Quite a range of actors as well;from a blood lust sheriff's deputy to the conservative sheriff ,the alcoholic but sympathetic town doctor and the lovely heroin and equally lovely town teacher, one of many young woman killed by an apparent serial killer during the course of the movie(No wonder the town mayor is upset!!)!!!! Finally the strain between the gun crazy deputy and sheriff as the mystery draws to a close heightens the film drama.
