Storyline War and trauma have always been at the basis of nostalgia. Nostalgia was a disease discovered in 1688 by Doctor Johnnnes Jaffe describing the symptoms of homesickness suffered by Swiss mercenaries stationed in war zones. Nostalgia, the disease, made soldiers hallucinate that they were at home and prevented them from fighting. My film depicts the trauma and dissociation of combat using super 8mm film transferred to video inside The Black Box of Memory that I built in my studio. The soundtrack is appropriated from helicopter cockpit video released by Chelsea Manning to the Wikileaks organization and records the accidental killing of a Reuters photographer whose camera was mistaken for a rocket propelled grenade launcher (RPG).
