Okay, so this is a low-budget, locally done film but you wouldn't know it by the production value and special effects. The zombies look like anything you might see in The Walking Dead and there is actually one extra-cool looking "blind" zombie that I've never seen in any other movie (great fx!) The story is pretty compelling and has a slightly different take on the undead theme. With a pretty short running time it goes by fast but there are several memorable moments throughout. My favorite character is the girl with the glasses but the main guy is cool too I guess. I think this film contains the longest continuously running siren ever featured on screen too so there's that. Definitely check it out if you are a zombie fan.
A Plague So Pleasant is a full length indie film, and the budget was less than $3,000. I'm impressed that they made such a quality film with a minuscule budget.
The acting was well done, and the special effects were great, but the best part was the unique story. I've never seen a zombie movie quite like this one. The zombies are fascinating because they aren't violent unless you provoke them. The story starts off one year after the zombie apocalypse began. At first, the zombies were violent when they were being slaughtered, but everyone eventually figured out that the zombies became docile if they were left alone. The violence of the initial outbreak only lasted twelve hours, but two billion people were killed by the half-day zombie conflict.
Fast forward to one year after the zombies started showing up, and the walking corpses are literally everywhere. They loiter in people's front yards, and they plant themselves in the middle of roads, much to the frustration of commuters trying to make it to work on time. Zombies are more of a nuisance than a threat. It's actually a felony to shoot a zombie because if a walking corpse is harmed, they will all attack. Unfortunately, the zombies keep multiplying because if you die of natural causes, you just get up again and shuffle the earth as one of the undead. Basically, zombies have replaced death. Humans are comfortable with the undead shuffling among them because the zombies actually prefer oats to brains, so people have nothing to fear unless the zombies are provoked.
I highly recommend this movie to any zombie fan. If you haven't seen it yet, you should watch A Plague So Pleasant on their website while it's still free!
